Round Rock was founded sometime in the 1800s. It started out as being a small settlement of Brushy, because it stood near the ford of the Brushy Creek. But, because a large round rock was found in the middle of the creek, the settlement ended up being re-named as Round Rock, in 1854. The complaint of the Postal Service that there are two Brushy settlements in Texas may have also contributed to this change of name. Where the Old Town is now located was the old center of the city, which was moved a couple of miles to the east from that particular location in 1876, when the railroad reached the city.
Many old buildings in the city were saved and turned into shops and walking down historic Round Rock is like taking a walk through history. Another interesting piece of history the role of the Chisholm Trail. Present day Round Rock is one of the most appreciated places to live in Austin and is a great place to raise a family or find a sweet new job!
